Studio

I’m a young professional translator, interpreter and editor, this means, I’m engaged with words in all forms every day.

20 years

In my 20 years of experience, I learnt that:
· Respect and professionalism are paramount to deliver a quality work.
· A good conversation with the client is essential to get to know each other and understand the business, and to guarantee confidentiality, efficiency, and flexibility.
· Above all, we must be honest with ourselves and with the team at the time of leading.

The Bridge

For me, the translator and interpreter is a communicator, it is the bridge between two parties that want or need to communicate. The responsibility is that huge. It’s about reflecting a message in one language into another with the speed and accuracy demanded by market or the circumstances, considering the nuances, the goal, the tone of the speakers or the narrator.

The Message

Why hiring professional linguistic services? Because communication is the key to the success of every business nowadays. Because a translation or editing mistake damages a brand, transmits the wrong message, and, most importantly, pushes clients away. Linguistic and communication professionals guarantee that your message will be delivered properly.

Translation

Translation services include any type of text, which is delivered according to the deadline and format agreed with the client. There are different types of translation that require different treatment and skills.

Literary Translation

This type of translation implies, not only translating, but also adapting, for example, cultural or rhythmical aspects of literary prose texts (short-stories, novels and plays) and poetry (poems, verse novels). It also requires enough sensitivity to read between lines, i.e. to go beyond the literal meaning of words in the source language.

Technical Translation

It requires a vast knowledge of the subject area dealt with, irrespective of linguistic skills. These texts can be: manuals, guides, patents, specifications; and the subject areas: engineering (mechanic, civil, IT, industrial), economics and finance, computing, medicine, among others.

Legal Translation

It deals with legal documents such as contract, bylaws, deeds, court rulings, commercial agreements, legislation. In this case, to the linguistic difficulties that may be found, the essential differences between the types of law add up, for example, common-law and civil law.

Sworn Translation

These are documents that need translation for official procedures at public or private bodies, such as ministries, embassies and consulates (personal documents, education and academic certificates, business documents, technical certificates). These translations require the stamp and signature of a sworn translator, and the certification of the pertaining Association of Translators.

Commercial and Marketing Translation

These documents (brochures, promotional material, websites, ads, and commercial campaigns) require a creative thought that will most surely move away from the word itself in the source language to become a reflection of that message into the target language.

Localization

This modality requires, apart from linguistic skills, a socio-cultural adjustment of the message or product to achieve a successful acceptance in the target market, for example, a website, marketing piece or ad.

Interpretation

Interpretation services are provided for any type of meeting or event that requires the oral transmission of a message. The interpreters that perform these services are specialized in the subject area, and the modality required. B-D-S offers consulting on the service the best fits the type of event being held, including advice on and hiring of equipment (sound, booths, transmitters, consoles, headsets, screens, projectors, and others). There are different modalities of interpretation.

Simultaneous

The interpreter works inside a booth, with a console and a microphone, and transmits speaker’s message into the target language of the audience, which is received through headsets. This modality is applied, for example, in conferences or congresses.

Consecutive

In this case, while the speaker talks, the interpreter takes notes to reconstruct and transmit the message to the audience, once the speaker finishes. This is mostly used in press conferences, statements, speeches and interviews.

Whispering, Chuchotage

It has the same principle as simultaneous interpretation, but the difference is that the interpreter only whispers to a person or reduced group, without supporting equipment.

Liaison

Here the interpreter enables the understanding between two parties that speak two different languages, as an intermediary. In general, there are several speakers and listeners on both sides; it doesn’t require supporting equipment, but it can involve note-taking.

Content Generation and Copywriting

The key to a successful communication is to count on efficient, persuasive and honest texts; texts that influence the decision-making process of a client or reader, without deviations or deception. For said purpose, the copywriter must be aware of the market, the audience, the certainties, and the fears. However, not only external communication is important, companies’ internal communication, for example, also requires care and consistency to avoid misunderstandings that may lead to wrong decisions.

How can you do it?

By means of efficient texts caring for coherence, consistence and keywords. B-D-S offers content generation and copywriting for blogs, newsletters, style guides and manuals, marketing brochures, user manuals, and any other literary or communication piece that your company needs.

Copy editing

Apart from the care we provide to the texts we translate, we also take care of those texts that need copy editing. This task includes checking grammar, spelling, style, and punctuation issues. This is performed by professional editors or translators with copy-editing training.

Subtitling

This is the translation and subtitling of all types of audiovisual material: movies, documentaries, series, short-films, interviews.

Translation from the script or audio.

Time-coding of subtitles.

Final video with burned-in subtitles in formats such as MOV, AVI, MPEG.

Audio transcriptions, for example, to prepare final scripts.

How do we quote?

B-D-S offers professional services. Therefore, each work is quoted individually, assessing the particular characteristics and nature of each project. The determining factors of a quotation are: language, length, deadline, and complexity. Urgent works or works with special design or equipment needs, alien to the translation or writing process or interpretation service, will have additional charges.

Translation

The quotation will depend on source and target languages, the number of words or pages, and the complexity of the subject area.

Interpretation

Similar to translation, it will rely on the number of working days or hours, the number of interpreters, the language pair, and the anticipation with which the service is hired. There may be additional charges related to the venue where the event will take place, and if equipment is supplied.

Copy editing

This quotation will depend on the language of the text, the length, and the complexity of the task to be performed.

Content Generation and Copywriting

The service will consider the number of words or pages to be developed, the language, the type of text, the subject area, the hiring modality (per individual work or regular subscriptions).
